In Conversation With Texas Ballet Theater’s Sugar Plum Fairy

This article about Texas Ballet Theater’s The Nutcracker features an interview with Alexandra Farber, a principal dancer with the company. While discussing her various roles in Ben Stevenson’s rendering of the holiday classic, Farber mentions her own aspirations as an emerging choreographer. She explains that she’s already begun creating choreography as a dancer, but notes that the industry is still heavily dominated by male choreographers. She then references DDP’s 2022-2023 First Look Report, which found that of the 1075 works announced for the 2022-2023 season, only  27% are choreographed by women.
