Liza, who currently serves on the Joffrey Ballet board, noticed that even though women are the economic drivers of the global dance industry — they make up 75% of audiences — they’re significantly underrepresented in leadership roles. Fewer than one-third of artistic directors are women, and in 2017, the highest- paid male artistic director made $900,000 and the highest-paid woman made $325,000. Sound familiar? Liza launched the Dance Data Project to link new talent to journalists, potential donors, and opportunities. “Women just don’t apply in the same numbers as men, often because they are unaware of what is out there. They do not have the network that men enjoy.” The DDP database provides a resource for data analysis, advocacy, and programming for creatives across the dance industry. “Gender equality in relationship to major companies is a topic that is barely breached in the dance world. I feel a moral obligation to lead the charge. What we see on the ballet stage is, for the most part, a male’s vision, even if the story is supposed to be from a woman’s point of view.” Thank you, Liza, for the work you’re doing to make a tangible impact on women's opportunities in the dance industry. #AskB4UGive A post shared by Ellevest (@ellevest) on May 17, 2019 at 5:25pm PDT https://ddp-wordpress.storage.googleapis.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/13142018/Asset-2.png 296 600 Isabelle Vail https://www.dancedataproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/DDP_logo_Primary.png Isabelle Vail2019-05-20 09:04:532019-11-25 14:45:00DDP Founder on Ellevest Instagram
