Happening This Week
- Luciana Paris and Eva Alt for ABT Incubator 2023
- On January 13, 2023: ABT Incubator will present the works of its 2023 choreographers. These choreographers include Luciana Paris (female), Eva Alt (female), Tyler Maloney (male), Mark Caserta (male), and Roderick George (male).
- Stephanie Thiersch for Tanz Bielefeld – Program: Land im Land
- January 14, 2023 – March 1, 2023: Tanz Bielefeld, the resident dance troupe of Theater Bielefeld, will present Land im Land, a world premiere work by Stephanie Thiersch (female). This piece also features the work of various female designers including light designer Begoña Garcia Navas (female), and costume designer Lauren Steel (female).

Female Choreography Commissions, World Premieres, and Programming
- Dorothée Munyaneza for Chaillot Théatre National de la Danse
- January 25, 2023 – January 28, 2023: Chaillot Théatre National de la Danse will present a world premiere work by Dorothée Munyaneza (female) entitled Mailles. This work “Weaves together the intimate journeys of six female black, African or of African descent artists.”
- Jenelle Gaerlan, Theresa Hanson, Andrea Parson & Laure Redmond for BODYVOX – Program: Serious Cupcakes
- January 26, 2023 – February 4, 2023: BODYVOX will present Serious Cupcakes, a program featuring new works from “new and newly inspired choreographers” including Jenelle Gaerlan (she/they), Theresa Hanson (female), Andrea Parson (female), Laure Redmond (female), Bo Brinton (male), Mr. Bobby Fouther (male), and Darvejon Jones (male).
- Rena Butler for Parsons Dance – Program: Parsons Dance at the Joyce
- March 15, 2023 – March 26, 2023: Parsons Dance will be in residence at the Joyce Theater and will present a program featuring new works by Rena Butler (female), and David Parsons (male) alongside company repertory. Butler is the recipient of the Parsons Dance 2022/2023 Generation Now Fellowship.
- Lali Ayguadé for Tanz Bielefeld – Program: Embodied
- March 25, 2023 – June 6, 2023: Tanz Bielefeld will present Embodied, a double bill featuring world premiere works by Lali Ayguadé (female) and Sharon Fridman (male).
- Nao Kusuzaki for Asia Society Texas
- March 24, 2023 – March 25, 2023: The Asia Society Texas in partnership with the Houston Ballet will present Genji, a world premiere work by Nao Kusuzaki (female).
- Annie Rigney for Martha Graham Dance Company – Program: Martha Graham Dance Company at the Joyce
- April 18, 2023 – April 30, 2023: The Martha Graham Dance Company will be in residence at the Joyce Theater and will present a program featuring world premiere works by Annie Rigney (female) and Baye & Asa (males), alongside works by Martha Graham (female) Hofesh Shechter (male), Sonya Tayeh (female) with Yue Yin (female), Jenn Freeman (female), Micaela Taylor (female), Juliano Nunes (male), Alleyne Dance, and Robert Cohan (male).
- Alice Topp & Natalie Weir for Singapore Ballet – Program: Passages Contemporary Season
- November 3, 2023 – November 5, 2023: Singapore Ballet will present Passages Contemporary Season, A triple bill of works by female choreographers including two world premieres by Alice Topp (female), and Natalie Weir (female) alongside a work by Christina Chan (female).

- New Jersey Dance Theater Ensemble Announces New Associate Artistic Director
- On December 28, 2022: the New Jersey Dance Theater Ensemble announced that effective January 3, 2023, Alexandra Gonzalez (female) would become the company’s new Associate Artistic Director.
- Dayton Contemporary Dance Company has Announced Interim Executive Director
- On January 5, 2023: Dayton Contemporary Dance Company announced that Phyllis Brzozowska (female) has been named as the company’s Interim Executive Director. This appointment comes after the previous Executive Director, Ro Nita Hawes-Saunders (female) announced the end of her tenure on December 31, 2022. This is a female-to-female transition.
- Colorado Ballet has Announced New Executive Director
- On December 12, 2022: Colorado Ballet announced that effective February 1, 2023, Sameed Afghani (male) will become the new Executive Director of the Colorado Ballet.
- Danish Dance Theatre Announces New Artistic Director
- On January 4, 2023: the Danish Dance Theatre announced that effective April 1, 2023, Marina Mascarell (female) will succeed Pontus Lidberg (male) as Artistic Director of the company. This is a male-to-female transition.
- Artist in Residence of American Ballet Theater Announces Move to New York City Ballet
- On December 22, 2022: American Ballet Theater Artist in Residence, Alexei Ratmansky (male), announced that he would be departing the company after 13 years as Artist in Residence. He will depart in June 2023 to join New York City Ballet as Artist in Residence, effective August 1, 2023.

- 2022 Harkness Promise Award Recipients
- On December 7, 2022: the 2022 Dance Magazine Harkness Promise Awards were presented. The recipients of the 2022 Harkness Promise Award are Kayla Farrish (female) and Johnnie Cruise Mercer (male).
- Deborah Cheetham AO for Australian Dance Theater
- May 2, 2023 – June 24, 2023: Australian Dance Theater will present a new work by Daniel Riley entitled THE HUM which features an original commissioned score by Deborah Cheetham AO (female).
