Is the dance industry sexist?
The Rider News, the student newspaper for Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, recently published an article by Felicia Roehm describing the inequity between boys and girls at dance competitions and in schools. The article explains how male students are consistently given preferential treatment for training and performance opportunities over female students. It then describes how this trend continues past early training and into dancers’ professional careers. The article cites DDP’s research to indicate that, due to this inequity, men are also granted more support and assistance in pursuing leadership roles in dance.
