From the Miami Herald:
‘I hate that I’m an anomaly.’ Black choreographer debuts original work with Miami City Ballet
This article from the Miami Herald highlights Claudia Schreier and her latest work, The Source, commissioned by Lourdes Lopez and Miami City Ballet. It describes Schreier’s prominent career as a choreographer and the challenges she’s faced as a Black woman in ballet. The article references research by Dance Data Project’s® to explain the significance of Schreier’s accomplishments, which include commissions by Atlanta Ballet and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Specifically, it cites our finding that “men choreographed 69 percent of the works in the 2020-2021 season.” The Source will be performed alongside works by Balanchine, Wheeldon, and Forsythe this April and May. It will also be made into a standalone film to be released following the live performances.
