From Sightlines:

Ballet Austin devotes a production to the work of female choreographers. That’s unfortunately more radical than you might think.

Ballet Austin’s upcoming “Her Story” performance is spotlighted in this article by Sightlines magazine. To establish the importance of a production that is entirely choregraphed by female artists, the article cites research by Dance Data Project®. In particular, it references our finding that, for the 2019–2020 season, 79% of the dances presented by the top 50 U.S. ballet companies were choreographed by men. In profiling each of the female choreographers, the article provides brief descriptions of the pieces that Jennifer Archibald, Jennifer Hart, and Amy Seiwert created on Ballet Austin. The piece explains that each of these women also currently heads her own company and then goes on to offer quotes from the women about their roles in leadership and the significance of being a role model for young female dancers.
