Dance Data Project® Welcomes David Mallette to Board of Directors and Phil Chan to Advisory Council
Northfield, IL | October 21, 2024 | Dance Data Project® (DDP) is excited to announce the addition of two distinguished leaders in the arts world to its growing team: David Mallette, President of Management Consultants for the Arts (MCA), has joined the DDP Board of Directors, and Phil Chan, co-founder of Final Bow for Yellowface, has joined the DDP Advisory Council.
David Mallette, a seasoned performing arts administrator with over two decades of experience, has worked extensively in theater and dance. Since joining MCA in 2005, he has led numerous executive searches for prestigious institutions, including the American Conservatory Theater, San Francisco Ballet, and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. His expertise in organizational leadership, creative innovation, and business acumen will be instrumental in helping DDP advance its mission of promoting gender equity across the dance industry.
“Dance Data Project is doing substantive and important work for dance, a field I have served and been devoted to for most of my professional life,” said Mallette. “I am happy to be joining as a (nonvoting) Board member to offer my support and perspective.”
Phil Chan is a visionary advocate for diversity and representation in dance. As co-founder of Final Bow for Yellowface, Chan has worked tirelessly to eliminate outdated and harmful representations of Asian culture in ballet. He is also the author of Final Bow for Yellowface: Dancing between Intention and Impact and President of the Gold Standard Arts Foundation, which advocates for cultural inclusion in the arts. Chan’s latest project, the 10,000 Dreams Festival at the Kennedy Center, featured the largest showcase of Asian choreographic talent on a single program.
“When women are given opportunities, women succeed. When women succeed, our field is richer, more vibrant, more sustainable, more creative, and more interesting,” said Chan. “I’m proud to join DDP in harnessing the power of data to hold up a mirror to our industry to make the irrefutable case for positive change.”
“I am beyond grateful to David Mallette and Phil Chan for their generous service to the field of dance and performing arts,” said DDP President & Founder Elizabeth ‘Liza’ Yntema. “Both have been invaluable resources and sounding boards for me and DDP. With decades of expertise and deep knowledge of all aspects of dance, DDP is beyond blessed to have them formalize their relationship with us, as we continue to push our research boundaries and look for every avenue to bring fiscal transparency and equity to the arts.”
