DANCE DATA PROJECT® CONTINUES TO PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR CHOREOGRAPHERS SEEKING TO NAVIGATE AND EXPAND THEIR OPPORTUNITIES DURING AN UNPRECEDENTED CRISIS
October 7, 2020 | Northfield, IL | Dance Data Project® (DDP) today released its Choreographer Checklist: Working Towards a Global Market, a concise to-do list to help female choreographers navigate the changing performing arts field and widen their global audience through digital platforms. Written by Assis Carreiro MBE, the checklist includes a list of six simple, measurable tasks that will assist choreographers in updating their online image and creating a marketable portfolio of their work.
Carreiro has over three decades of experience in the performing arts industry, offering career advice and planning as well as contract negotiations and networking. Her influence is international, as she has assisted clients across the UK, Canada, and beyond, deepening their professional careers and expanding their networks.
“Creating personal connections and networking are more important and more difficult now than ever before,“ Carreiro said. “At the same time, we all have the world of dance at our fingertips. My hope is that this resource will not only fuel more creation by female choreographers but also get them excited to put themselves out there for the world to see.”
The Choreographer Checklist: Working Towards a Global Market is one of many resources DDP offers to assist female choreographers in their professional growth and development. Other resources include the Choreographer Survival Skills Checklist, which notes the necessary qualities and skills that compose a successful choreographic career; the List of Women in Prominent Creative Roles, which serves as a platform for female leaders in dance to be recognized, celebrated, and easily researched; and an up-to-date deadline banner and webpage on the DDP site that denotes important due dates for ballet-related fellowships, scholarships, and choreographic competitions.
DDP recently released the 2020-2021 Season Status Updates resource, an online tool that provides a listing of programming changes for both U.S. and international ballet companies. The resource, refreshed regularly as announcements are made available, also features a Nutcracker section with updates on companies’ plans for the holiday favorite. DDP will publish the annual First Look report, an examination of the largest 50 U.S. ballet companies’ season announcements, when the remainder of companies’ announcements are available later this year.
