History-making choreographer returns to the Joffrey Ballet with a new work

Crain’s Chicago Business published an article highlighting Chanel DaSilva’s recent world premiere as part of Beyond Borders, Joffrey Ballet’s 2022-2023 opening program. DaSilva’s world premiere colōrem will debut this October and will be the second piece she’s created for the company. The first was Swing Low in 2021 which, the article notes, was the first time in Joffrey’s 65-year history that a Black woman was commissioned to create a mainstage work on the company. In discussing the significance of this, the piece cites DDP’s ranking of the Largest 50 U.S Ballet Companies to note that Joffrey is, as of this year, at position nine.
